Lily’s Sweets Review

I love chocolate. I love dark chocolate. I love coconut. I love almonds.

But, what I love more than all of this is hearing stories of determination and beating the odds. (I’ll get to that in a second).

I contacted a company by the name of Lily’s Sweets a month ago and they graciously sent me a few of their delicious dark chocolate bars to facilitate this review. What’s great about these chocolates is that they have no added sugar, they are all natural, and their ingredients are non-GMO.

Lily’s Dark Chocolate is sweetened with all-natural Stevia, the only natural sweetener with zero calories.

“Lily’s stevia-sweetened premium dark chocolate has the indulgence you crave but with 25% fewer calories than other 55% dark chocolates. We use only the finest, all-natural, non-GMO ingredients, including cocoa that is Fair Trade certified. At Lily’s we’re committed to making great tasting chocolate that’s also better for you.”

The four flavors I received are: Original, Coconut, Crispy Rice and Almond.

I tried the Almond first. It had a very nice ratio of chocolate to almonds and in the perfect sized almond chunks. It wasn’t too sweet and I think the sweet dark chocolate paired perfectly with the nuts.

The next one I tried was the Coconut.  The chocolate was rich and creamy, with lots of little bits of coconut. It had a lovely texture with the perfect sweetness. Not too sweet and not too bitter. Just right. I gave a piece to Todd to try (thinking he wouldn’t like it because of the dark chocolate and the Stevia, but he surprised me). He said he liked it.

The Crispy Rice bar was plumb full of little crunchies made up of organic brown rice.

The Original bar was creamy and smooth and definitely delicious! But, I favored the ones with texture a bit more.

I loved them all, but Almond was definitely my favorite, followed by the Coconut bar.

Okay, back to the story about determination and beating the odds…

Lily’s Sweets was named after an inspirational little girl, named Lily. When she was 7 years old, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Doctors operated successfully, but the surgery to remove her tumor left her with some immobility. Throughout her recovery at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, there was a shortage of electric wheelchairs. It made Lily sad to see kids having to wait for a turn to use one. When she returned home, she worked with her family to raise $9,000 for an additional chair. A few years later, Lily was diagnosed with cancer a second time. She beat it again ! And now, Lily’s Sweets donates some of their profits to help other kids with cancer.

“Lily’s commitment to raising money for kids with cancer is the definition of selflessness and compassion. To honor Lily and her bravery, we made her our namesake, and pledge a percentage of our profits to provide kids with cancer some of the services they need. We hope to ease their burdens by bringing them some joy and fun.”

If you love dark chocolate and want to consume less sugar, you need to give Lily’s Sweets a try. I’m glad I did, and I’m so touched and inspired by Lily’ story.
