Coconut Secret Products Review

I have to tell you about one of the best products that I have found since blogging…

First of all, I am a huge fan of healthy eating. Sure, I get distracted by other foods… deep-fried foods, decadent desserts, carnival foods, holiday foods, yada yada yada… but I’m human.

For the most part, I eat healthy and I look for the benefits of the food that goes into my body. One of the companies that I have found while writing this blog is Coconut Secret.

“It all began in the Spring of 2008, with an overwhelming desire to create a low glycemic, gluten-free snack line that was truly safe for diabetics, using the purest, most organic, least processed ingredients we could find. A few years earlier both our parents were diagnosed with Diabetes, and we quickly became appalled at what was beingsugar2 passed off as “diabetic-safe” foods, especially in the snack category. We discovered, that oftentimes, sugar is disguised on labels in a myriad of creative technical terms. Newly invented imitation sugar substitutes are used as sweetening agents. Sugar in other forms are frequently added such as fruit juice concentrates, honey (which when heated and processed for use in manufacturing, essentially becomes sugar syrup), and the most infamous of all, “high fructose corn syrup” (HFCS), now widely known as one of the primary contributors to Diabetes and Obesity. None of these sweeteners are truly “safe”, no matter how they are purported to breakdown in the body.

The bottom line, is that sugar by any other name is still perceived by your body as a sugar, and thus, prompts it to respond the same as it would with sugar by increasing blood sugar concentrations. This in turn, causes your body to produce an over abundance of insulin to compensate. A downward spiral begins to occur, as your blood sugar levels then take a dive in the opposite direction and decrease rapidly, thereby initiating an equally rapid decline in energy. An endless seesaw effect of ups and downs, that over time, truly takes its toll on our exhausted bodies.

Yikes ~ so sorry for the digression. Now back to the Coconut Secret story! As I mentioned, it all began with a heartfelt desire to create a low glycemic, gluten-free snack line for diabetics. And that is precisely what happened! We’ve been busy this past year creating an extensive line of coconut-based snacks to satisfy (and satiate!) virtually every kind of craving. We’ve recreseedlingated (with a few healthy improvements) some old time favorite snack bars, macaroons, and many other incredibly delicious surprises still to come!”

The wonderful people at Coconut Secret sent me some of their products to facilitate this review.

The first product I tried was the Organic Classic Coconut Bar. Chocolate and coconut are some of my favorite things so I was pretty excited to try these bars. The layer of chocolate was pretty thick as you can see in the picture. I had a hard time eating the whole thing because after a few bites, I was kind of full. It had a lovely coconut flavor and it wasn’t overly sweet. I gave Todd the Almond Coconut Bar and he fell in love with it instantly. He sent me a text saying it was amazing, so my guess is that he liked it.

I tried the Coconut Nectar next.

Coconut palms are one of the oldest flowering trees in the world. For centuries throughout the tropics, the traditional practice of “tapping” coconut trees for their prized “sap” is a time-honored art form. The nutrient-rich sap that exudes from the blossoms before they mature into coconuts, is used to make many unique and nutritious food products. The Coconut Secret line is the direct result of these artisanal family recipes.

The sap from a coconut tree is very low glycemic, and contains 17 amino acids, minerals, vitamin C, broad-spectrum B vitamins, and has a nearly neutral pH. It has 0 fat and only contains 55 calories in a tablespoon. Click here to read more about coconut nectar.

I’ve been putting the nectar on everything from waffles, on my cereal, in my tea, on my yogurt and granola bowls,

in my salad dressings,

and even drizzled on top of flan.

Coconut Secret also sent me their Raw Coconut Vinegar to sample. Because Coconut Secret Coconut Vinegar is aged over an eight to twelve month process and made from sap without any added catalysts to the fermentation process, it is a more natural and more nutritious option to vinegar made from coconut water.

I find that the coconut vinegar is a nice, mild, sweet vinegar and is terrific in homemade salad dressings. I’ve also been using it instead of apple cider vinegar to get rid of the sore throat that has been haunting me for days.

I really do like these products and once they are empty, I will be restocking them as staples in my pantry.

Thanks so much Coconut Secret!!
